3540-58 W. Peterson Ave.

Status
Ordinance passed September 10, 2008

Description
An aldermanic application to classify as a C1-1 Neighborhood Commercial District instead of a B1-1 Neighborhood Shopping District the area shown on Map Number 15-J bounded by: the public alley next north of and parallel to West Peterson Avenue; a line 157.68 feet east of and parallel to North Central Park Avenue; West Peterson Avenue; and North Central Park Avenue.

Commentary
The subject property is an existing commercial building at the northeast corner of W. Peterson Ave. and N. Central Park Ave. Future plans for the property are not known. Ald. Stone claims that the zoning change is necessary in order to allow a beauty parlor. If this is the real reason for the change, then the change is unnecessary. It would have been more appropriate to apply for a special use permit. Ald. Stone of course prefers to handle it as a zoning changes because he is a member of the Zoning Committee, not the Zoning Board of Appeals.

Related Documents
Since this is an aldermanic application, most of the normally required documents are not available. The Department of Zoning was unable to provide any documents other than the proposed ordinance in response to a freedom of information (FOIA) request.
